Product Description:

Andy Safe is a stable and environmentally safe green fluorescent nucleic acid dye specifically designed for gel staining. Andy Safe is compatible with a standard 300 nm transilluminator, a 254 nm transilluminator, a blue-light transilluminator, or a gel reader equipped with visible light excitation such as a 488 nm laser-based gel scanner.

Andy Safe Nucleic Acid Gel Stain, 10,000X is a concentrated Andy Safe solution that can be diluted 10,000 times for use in precast gel staining or 5,000 times for use in post gel staining according to the procedures described below. One vial (500 mL) of 10,000X solution can be used to prepare at least 100 precast minigels or post-stain at least 100 minigels.

Gel staining with Andy Safe is compatible with downstream applications such as gel extraction and cloning. Andy Safe is efficiently removed from DNA by phenol/chloroform extraction and ethanol precipitation.

Safer Than Ethidium Bromide
Andy Safe Stain has been tested in a varity of toxicity tests with results indicating it is less mutagenic and safer for you to work with than ethidium bromide. You can further decrease your exposure risk by using visible blue light illumination with Andy Safe Stain rather than UV illumination. This is especially valuable when performing exposure intensive protocols like cutting bands out of gels.
Excellent Sensitivity
Andy Safe Stain offers excellent sensitivity in nucleic acid visualization and documentation applications with either UV excitation or blue light excitation. When bound to nucleic acids, the green-fluorescent SYBR® Safe Stain has fluorescence excitation maxima at ~300 and ~500 nm, and an emission maximum at ~530 nm. Plus, when used with blue light illumination, Andy Safe Stain has less background fluorescence than ethidium bromide stained gels illuminated with UV light.
Easy To Use
Andy Safe Stain is supplied as a 10,000X concentrate in H2O or DMSO which can be used just like a solution of ethidium bromide. Andy Safe Stain can be mixed into an agarose gel for staining during electrophoresis or the gel can be incubated in a solution of Andy Safe Stain following electrophoresis. Andy Safe Stain can be stored at room temperature in its original packaging to avoid excessive light exposure.
